Comments: “Dubonnet” was created by “Joseph Dubonnet” in 1846, the aperitif wine became very popular ingredient for cocktails and with the French Foreign Legion. The tin was a promotional item that was most commonly used to hold playing cards or tobacco.
Interestingly, in the top left hand corner in very small letters it says “d’apres A.M.C.” as the illustration on the tin was taken from the popular poster designed by the famous artist “Adolphe Mouron Cassandre”(1901-1968). The poster was inspired by “Cubism” and “Surrealism” it was ground breaking, as it was the first to be designed so that it could be seen from a fast moving vehicle and when the images were viewed in quick succession they formed a complete story.
“AMC” produced very many fantastic poster designs and in 1963 he came up with the “Yves Saint-Laurent” logo.
As the famous French actor and singer”Fernandel”(1903-1971) frequently said on the British TV in the 1960′s “Doo ‘ave a Doo-bon-nay”.
“DUBO” “DUBON” “DUBONNET”
